Police have arrested two individuals and seized 1,330 liters of stolen diesel in separate drives in Hatiya Upazila of Noakhali District.

The information was confirmed on Thursday (April 2) morning by the Officer-in-Charge of Hatiya Police Station, Mohammad Kabir Hossain. Earlier, on Wednesday afternoon, the operation was conducted in the Panch Bigha and MP’s Pole areas under Hatiya Municipality.

The arrested individuals are Md. Russell, 22, son of Abul Kashem from Ward No. 4 of Hatiya Municipality, and Md. Jafar, 35, son of Azhar Ahmed from Forazi Village.

According to police, drives were carried out in different market areas of Hatiya Municipality to prevent illegal fuel stockpiling amid the ongoing national situation. During the operation, at around 12:00 pm, police recovered four drums containing 760 liters of stolen diesel from a road north of Nabi Bhuiyan’s sawmill in Panch Bigha Village. Later, at around 1:45 pm, another three drums containing 570 liters of diesel were seized from the MP’s Pole area.

At that time, the two individuals were arrested on charges of storing stolen diesel.

Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Kabir Hossain said that two separate cases have been filed in connection with the incidents. Efforts are ongoing to arrest other absconding suspects.
