Police have arrested a man and his second wife in Trishal, Mymensingh, for the alleged murder of his four-year-old son, Labib. The suspects, identified as the child’s father, Sohag Miya (28), and his stepmother, Zakia Akter (28), were apprehended during a 3:00 AM raid on Thursday in Bakhura village under the Yashora Union of Gafargaon Upazila.
According to police sources, Sohag Miya visited his in-laws’ house in Trishal on Wednesday, claiming he wanted to take the child back to his own home. He had promised to return Labib to the maternal grandparents’ house by that same evening. However, later that evening, locals discovered the child’s lifeless body lying near the grandparents’ residence and alerted the authorities. Sohag had been in hiding since the incident.
Investigations revealed that the victim’s biological mother, Lamia, had been living at her father’s house due to ongoing family disputes.
Firoz Hossain, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Trishal Police Station, stated that during primary interrogation, Sohag Miya confessed to the crime. He reportedly admitted to strangling his son to death as part of a premeditated plan before abandoning the body. Both suspects have been sent to jail following a court appearance.
