The President will administer the oath to the new cabinet members as per the constitution, Cabinet Secretary Sheikh Abdur Rashid said.
He said this while talking to reporters at the Secretariat on Saturday (February 14). The President will administer the oath to the new cabinet members at Bangabhaban as per the constitution. The swearing-in ceremony was organized by the Cabinet Division, but the formalities were completed at Bangabhaban.
Md. Shahabuddin is currently in charge as the President.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party is going to form the government in the 13th National Parliament election after winning more than two-thirds of the seats. The party is returning to power after almost two decades through the election held last Thursday.
According to the party’s announcement, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman will take charge as the country’s next Prime Minister after winning the majority of seats.
BNP won 209 out of the 297 seats in which the results were declared in the election. BNP candidates are also ahead in the two seats where the results have been postponed. The party’s partners have won three more seats. In total, the number of seats for BNP and its allies has reached 212.
On the other hand, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has won 68 seats. Other partners of the 11-party electoral alliance led by the party have won 9 seats. As a result, the total number of seats for Jamaat and its allies is 77.
The Election Commission has already published the gazette of the elected members of parliament.
The Cabinet Secretary said that first the oath of the elected members of parliament will be taken, then the election of the parliament leader and related processes will be completed. Then the oath of the cabinet will be held at a convenient time. He said, “We hope that the oath will be taken in the next three days or maximum four days.”
He also said that preparations are underway to invite about 1,000 guests to the oath-taking ceremony.
