An easybike driver was killed and several others were injured after a mini-truck crashed into a stationary passenger vehicle on the Mymensingh-Kishoreganj highway on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Babul Mia, son of the late Abbas Ali, a resident of Gao Ramgopalpur village in the Ramgopalpur Union of Gouripur Upazila.

Local sources reported that Babul Mia was parked on the side of the highway near his village to pick up and drop off passengers. At that moment, a mini-truck traveling from Mymensingh toward Ishwarganj struck the easybike from behind. The collision left Babul Mia and three to four others seriously injured. Locals rushed Babul to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where the attending physician declared him dead. The identities of the other injured passengers could not be immediately confirmed.

Following the news of Babul’s death, an angry mob blocked the Mymensingh-Kishoreganj highway in protest. Upon receiving the report, police arrived at the scene and managed to persuade the crowd to clear the road, restoring the flow of traffic.

Kamrul Hasan, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gouripur Police Station, confirmed the fatality. He noted that while the easybike driver was killed, the truck driver fled the scene immediately after the accident. “Necessary legal action will be taken regarding this incident,” the OC added.
