A Jubo Dal leader was allegedly abducted from his own restaurant and brutally assaulted, leaving his limbs broken, in Kishoreganj Sadar Upazila over a dispute related to extortion demands.
The incident occurred around noon on Tuesday (March 31) in the Katabaria area adjacent to the regional passport office.
The victim, Babul, convener of Latibabad Union Jubo Dal, was admitted in critical condition to Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital.
On Tuesday night, the victim’s father, Md. Hadis Mia, filed a written complaint with Kishoreganj Model Police Station against six individuals, naming Sadar Upazila BNP Joint General Secretary Shahidul Islam Shahid as the main accused.
According to the injured Babul, he was abducted from his restaurant by associates acting on Shahid’s instructions after he refused to pay extortion money. He alleged that he was taken to a secluded location and severely beaten, resulting in fractures to one arm and one leg.
Babul further claimed that a BNP-linked group, operating around the regional passport office, has been harassing ordinary people through Awami League affiliates while embezzling money. He said the attack followed his refusal to pay a demanded extortion of Tk 6,000 and his subsequent complaint to the police.

Sadar Upazila Jubo Dal Member Secretary Syed Shah Alam said Babul was taken away “in a cinematic manner” while leaving his restaurant and later subjected to brutal torture that broke one arm and one leg. He demanded immediate legal action against those responsible. He also alleged that the accused Shahid is widely feared in the area and has been linked to harboring armed cadres.

However, Shahidul Islam Shahid denied all allegations, stating he has no conflict with Babul and is not involved in extortion. He described the allegations as a conspiracy against him.
Officer-in-Charge of Kishoreganj Model Police Station, Md. Abul Kalam Bhuiyan, said a complaint has been received and is being investigated with due seriousness, and legal proceedings are underway.
